Successfully driving a UTV leaves you and any passengers with plenty of fun memories. Remember that driving UTVs is a little bit different from any other off-road vehicle. We put together this quick list of tips for driving UTVs so that you can make the most of every drive you take. Visit us at PrairieLand Partners at one of Kansas locations. Our team welcomes everyone across Kansas.

Wear Safety Gear

In case of an accident, you should always wear safety gear. Even if you do not plan on traveling far, you should have a helmet and eye protection. For longer trips, add long sleeves, sturdy gloves, and high boots to that list of safety wear. The more coverage means the fewer injuries to your body if you crash or roll.

Travel in Groups

If your machine breaks down on a trail, it is better if you are not alone. Find some buddies and plan a day to take your UTVs out together. You do not want to be stuck miles away from cell service or your car on your own. Be aware of the protocol of driving with other UTVs. If you are at the front, try to signal other drivers the number in your group to ensure everyone's safety.

Check Tire Pressure

Before driving out, a quick check of your tires is paramount to your safety. Tire pressure helps UTVs perform their best, too. Your UTV manual likely has recommendations for tire pressure in specific terrain. Typically it should be lower in sand and mud but higher in rocky landscapes.

Educate Yourself on Etiquette

Driving UTVs means that you should learn the proper etiquette when driving on popular trails. For example, keep to the right and stay on the marked path out of respect to other drivers. And out of courtesy to campers and others, you should be mindful of your speed near campgrounds and pedestrian areas.

Bring Emergency Tools

Similar to driving UTVs in groups, it is an intelligent choice to have tools and spare parts on board at all times. Consider the common problems you can have miles away from the start of a trail. Carry a spare tire in case of a flat and an extra CVT belt, too, if your machine uses one.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned driver of UTVs, you should always bear in mind these tips. You can have a lot more successful trips and a lot more fun thanks to them.
